Cyberabad police nabs 5 persons in Medchal highway murder case

Hyderabad: A day after the brutal murder of 24-year-old person G Umesh on the national highway in Medchal, the Cyberabad police on Monday arrested five persons.

The arrested persons have been identified as G Rakesh, 19, a student, and G Laxman, 24, B Naveen, 21, B Suresh, 21 and B Naresh, 20, all working in an e-commerce company. Rakesh and Laxman were residents of Medchal, while the remaining were residents of Kandlakoya village in Medchal.

Rakesh was the brother of Umesh, a private employee, and the remaining were his cousins, according to police. Medchal Zone DCP N Koti Reddy, at a press conference on Monday, said that the five accused killed Umesh on NH-44 in front Medchal RTC bus depot. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the Gandhi hospital mortuary before taking up the investigation.

The accused were arrested in Kandlakoya and seized weapons used for killing Umesh from their possession. During the probe, the police found that the deceased had a past criminal record at Kamareddy district with nine cases of snatching, robbery and remanded him to judicial custody. He later got a conviction. After getting addicted to alcohol, Umesh used to harass his family members for a long time.

As a result, Rakesh became vexed with Umesh’s activities and hatched a plan to get rid of him. To execute his plan, he took the assistance of his cousins and managed to get two knives. They went to the house of Umesh in RTC Colony and found in a drunken condition and harassing the family members.

Rakesh and Laxman attacked Umesh when others caught hold of him. Umesh, managed to escape from their clutches and ran towards the RTC bus depot where the accused chased and caught hold of him and attacked him with knives. Death was instant for Umesh, the police said.

The police advised the people if anyone has grievances with regard to any dispute within the family or anyone they can approach the police or dial 100 to resolve it.
