Miley Cyrus made rare comments about her relationship with her father in a statement on social media after she appeared in a selfie with the country music star.

In an Instagram post shared May 9, Billy Ray Cyrus posted a selfie that featured him, son Braison, Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend, Maxx Morando, to celebrate Braison Cyrus’ birthday.

The photo took fans by surprise amid speculation that the “Flowers” singer had a falling out with her father. The rumors were exacerbated when she did not mention him in her Grammys acceptance speech in February 2024 or thank him in her Instagram post shared after the event.

Miley Cyrus shared a statement to her Instagram story May 10, taking a moment to address the speculation about her relationships with both her parents.

“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else,” she wrote. “I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”

The singer also commented on other rumors surrounding her family.

Before Billy Ray Cyrus shared the selfie with Miley Cyrus on social media, some people noticed that her mom, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, had allegedly unfollowed her daughter on social media.

Fans began leaving comments on Cyrus-Purcell’s most recent Instagram post to ask why she unfollowed her daughter, leaving the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast co-host to address the controversy in the comments.

To one Instagram user, Tish Cyrus-Purcell responded, “i didn’t! Idk what happened lol.”

In another comment thread, Cyrus-Purcell assured her followers that she had “no idea how that happened but it’s fixed now!”

On her Instagram story, Miley Cyrus wrote of the controversy, “I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us.”

“She’s my best friend,” she continued. “Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me—simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.”

Cyrus, who previously referred to her family as “complex” in a 2021 interview with British Vogue, is the oldest of the three children that Billy Ray Cyrus and Cyrus-Purcell share.

Cyrus-Purcell also has two children from a prior marriage, while Billy Ray Cyrus has one child from a previous relationship.

Cyrus-Purcell filed for divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus for the third time in April 2022.

She got married to actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023, while the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer married Firerose in October 2023, though the couple split less than a year later.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley recently went public with their relationship in April, with Hurley sharing a post on Instagram of the singer kissing her on the cheek.

The country singer opened up about reconnecting with the actor after they both appeared in 2022’s “Christmas in Paradise,” sharing that Hurley reached out to him several years after filming wrapped when she recognized that he was going through a tough time.
